Asus ROG Strix GA15DH (GA15DH-AH772) Review

A premium design, and it performs like one

In a way, the ROG Strix GA15DH feels like the Mac of gaming desktops PCs. The line is rarely upgraded, but when it does, you’re assured of a beefy system with a stunning design. For instance, this latest addition proves once and for all that glass panels and gaudy RGB lighting aren’t the only way to make a gaming PC attractive.

It’s not like the Asus GA15DH-AH772 has an understated chassis, but Asus didn’t feel the need to overcompensate with flashy gaming aesthetics anyway. Instead, it has a solid feature set that’s a boon for gamers who need all the power and nothing else.

We’re talking of an AMD Ryzen 7 3800X processor, GeForce RTX 2070 Super GPU, 16 GB RAM, and 512GB SSD + 1 TB HDD for storage. That’s about all the power you need for gaming and productivity.

ROG Strix GA15DH Design

As with all ROG Strix gaming PCs, the GA15DH-AH772 sports a slick black aesthetic. That should be it, however, there are a few design accents that are cool and make for good functionality. To get things going, unlike most of its rivals, there’s a black handle that increases the portability of this large gaming rig.

The power button is located at the head of the single RGB strip on the front panel. All said, the most visible part of the machine is neat and pleasing, with a transparent side panel that gives a beautiful view of the LED-lit interior. Elsewhere, the lip that stabilizes the front of the case in a slightly upward position can easily hook over the front of shelves, so the PC isn’t going to slip off the shelves or desks.

Ports

Port selection is excellent, commensurate of a gaming PC of this class. Just below the handle, you have easy access ports – one USB Type-C, one USB Type-A, one headphone, and one microphone jacks. Around the back, there are two USB 3.2 Type-A ports, four USB 3.2 ports, DVI-D, D-Sub, PS/2 keyboard, PS/2 mouse, Ethernet port, and three audio jacks.

On the GeForce RTX 2070 Super GPU, there are three DisplayPort and a single HDMI port, adding to the rig’s impeccable connectivity options. It also supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 for wireless connectivity.

Like most high-end gaming desktop PCs, this one too doesn’t include a gaming keyboard, mouse, or monitor – they’d probably add on an already premium price. Those can be purchased separately, and we can recommend the Redragon S101 gaming combo, and the  LG 34GP83A-B gaming monitor respectively.

Asus GA15DH-AH772 performance

When it comes to everyday computing, the ROG Strix GA15DH handles like a dream. The 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 3800X processor, paired with 16GB DDR4 RAM comes handy for most productivity tasks, better than most mainstream desktops. Even if you keep hurling weighty game downloads its way, this gaming PC performs admirably while running other tasks at the same time.

Because of the 512GB SSD, it also boots up really fast, while the additional 1TB HDD offers enough legroom to store all your games and other files. All said, the Asus GA15DH-AH772 is one of those few systems that’ll make light of all your day-to-day tasks and even complex pursuits like media creation and video editing.

Asus ROG Strix GA15DH (GA15DH-AH772) side

Now, what about games? With a peppy Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super graphics card with 8GB GDDR6 memory, mileage remains constant (if not better). This machine breezes through 1080p game tests at incredibly high frame rates per second without breaking a sweat. The same impeccable performance is replicated in 1440p mode; and, that’s not to say it’s a poor performer at 4K gaming – it is.

While it doesn’t manage quite as well in 4K benchmarks, it’s still pretty good nonetheless. It’s definitely going to perform well on today’s biggest games, too. In The Division 2 at Ultra settings, it averages 56-60 FPS, even with multiple adversaries on the screen at once. The same level of performance is replicated on Total War: Warhammer 2, where it averages 51 FPS on max settings. This level of performance on benchmark tests points towards impressive FPS on even the most complex of today’s AAA games.

Bottom Line

So, is the new ROG Strix GA15DH a worthy addition to the Asus gaming desktop line? Well, from what we’ve seen, absolutely. That signature case is a bold new chapter in the Strix playbook, packed with features and adorable, practical flourishes like the RGB strip at the front.

While there’s a tremendous amount of gaming PCs, some even costing less, most of those models never offer the level of detail and value you can find here. And, some that offer this kind of power tend to veer on the price side.

But, as is clear from the intricate design, the Asus ROG Strix GA15DH GA15DH-AH772 works hard to justify its price tag. Overall, this is a premium design, and it performs like one.
