CYBERPOWERPC Gamer GXiVR8480A10 Review

It’s no secret that CyberPower offers its gaming desktops ad infinitum, we have reviewed more than 25 configurations, and most of them have garnered our Editors’ Choice award. The CYBERPOWERPC Gamer GXiVR8480A10 model we’re reviewing today is a refreshed update our favorite CYBERPOWERPC Gamer GXiVR8060A10 from last year, with new components, offered at an all-time great price.

Pros

  • Solid 1080p gaming performance for the money
  • Snazzy-looking case
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Cons

  • No front USB-C ports or flash-card reader

This budget-conscious midtower surprises with high-end flourishes such as a trio of LED-lit fans, while its perky Intel Core i5 processors and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card make an ideal pairing for smooth 1080p gaming. For the solid feature set, especially the new 11th generation processor and RTX 3060 graphics card, it is our newest Editors’ Choice pick for entry level gaming rigs.

Should you want to go absolutely high-end, CyberPower offers the Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8080A20, with an Intel Core i9-10900K CPU, GeForce RTX 3090 (24GB) and 16GB RAM; or you can go with the Skytech Prism II that has the same configuration, save for an AMD Ryzen 9 3900X CPU. But that jump in performance comes at a price, but both are worth every buck you spend.

A Familiar Gamer Look

The Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8480A10 comes in a familiar CyberPowerPC chassis – a trio of LED circles on the front panel, with a CyberPowerPC logo on the bottom of the front panel. It’s set on a MasterBox NR640 case, measuring 23.5 x 12.4 x 22.3 inches with a tempered glass side panel, that lets you see the neat cable work on the inside. There’s also an illuminating LED-lite rear fan, which adds to the system’s gamer character.

While the Gamer GXiVR8480A10 doesn’t include an optical drive (after all, most modern PCs don’t include this feature), it gets robust port options, including easy access ports on the front panel. In total, you have six USB 3.1 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port and a 7.1 audio channel output.

It also comes with HDMI and two DisplayPort for dual-monitor setups, while wireless connectivity comes in way of 802.11AC Wi-Fi.

Also bundled into the package are a CyberPower gaming mouse and keyboard; pretty basic though – you can always get a great gaming combo – something like the Redragon S101 is recommended. However, you’ll have to purchase a gaming monitor separately (that’s if you don’t own one), we recommend the ASUS VG278QR, with a 1080p resolution, 144Hz refresh rate and supports Nvidia G-Sync.

The Gamer Strikes Back

The Gamer GXiVR8480A10 unit in this review is an Intel desktop with an Intel Core i5-11600KF CPU, 16GB DDR4 of memory, a 500GB NVMe SSD boot drive and a 1TB HDD storage drive with a 7200-RPM speed. That puts it in the upper-middle range for desktop gaming PCs right now.

For instance, in Shadow of the Tomb Raider running on very high settings, the Gamer Extreme GXiVR8480A10 hits a more than respectable 97 fps average at FHD and a 34 fps average at 4K. That’s slightly higher FHD performance than the Skytech Shadow 3.0 (RTX 2060, 6GB), although the Skytech machine also pulls almost similar frame rates at 4K. Provided you’ll stick to FHD (1080p resolution), modern games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Far Cry New Dawn will certainly play above the 81 fps category average.

Again, high frame rates take precedent over visual fidelity in competitive gaming anyway. Therefore, if you’re looking for more esports performance standards, you can rest easy that the Gamer GXiVR8480A10 can handle Fortnite, Apex Legends and Rocket League without breaking a sweat whether played through the SSD or HDD.

Bottom Line

Anyone looking to dive into PC gaming world or simply need a pre-build rig to play more esports titles without breaking the bank should find real value in the Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8480A10 Gaming PC. Beyond putting the included keyboard and mouse aside for something better, users will find this system a capable gamer, and the fact that its VR Ready makes is even better value.

Most importantly, the 1080p performance is respectable on mid-to-high level settings on most AAA games and those wanting to eventually upgrade can do so without much problem. As it stands, the CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8480A10 is an appealing option for mid-range gaming desktop PC; and for the price vs. performance perspective, it is our newest Editors’ Choice pick.
