CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8680A Review

For every top-tier pre-built gaming PC, there’s something a bit more subtle above mainstream machines from HP, Alienware, and others. In some ways, the CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8680A follows the lead of its predecessor but comes in a clean, new design. But it also emulates some of the best gaming PCs with bog standard parts and lots of options for upgradeability.

Powering the GXiVR8680A, in the only configuration as of this writing, is an Intel i7-13700KF and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070Ti, which is a powerful combination for both 1080p and 4K gaming.

The CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme is worthy of consideration for anyone willing to shell out around $2000 on a pre-built PC. There are some issues with SSD speed to address, though that doesn’t affect gaming performance.

Design

Out of the box, the GXiVR8680A provides an attractive raven-black chassis. The bolt front-facing CyberpowerPC is emblemed on a white panel on the right side, the rest of the front panel is a black panel with an RGB strip that resonates with the RGBs on the interior fans. Those looking to showcase the desktop’s innards will appreciate the transparent glass side panel.

Front, back and top ventilation keeps the Gamer Xtreme VR cool with a total of six possible locations to maximize cooling. There are two USB-A ports alongside headphones and a microphone jack up front, though having at least one USB-C port could be nice.

In the rear are four USB 3.1 ports, two USB 2.0 and 5.1 channel audio out, and an ethernet port. That should be enough for a basic keyboard, mouse, headset, and webcam setup. On the RTX 4070 Ti card, there is a single HDMI port and two DisplayPort connections for dual monitor setups.

Included with the Gamer Xtreme is also a keyboard and mouse, which should suffice for starters. Gamers looking to get serious competitively are going to replace these bundled components for something better.

Gaming and Graphics performance

Configured with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti (12GB) and an Intel i7-13700KF, the Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8680A can power through modern titles at their highest settings and 4K resolution. At 1080p, which uses the CPU more, it sometimes ends up on par with systems with the more powerful RTX 4080.

The GXiVR8680A can handle Control (which remains a punishing game after all these years) at its best, albeit not at 60 fps. At 1440p (Very High Quality), it plays Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at 141 fps, which is almost at par with previous-gen flagship performance, just 2% slower than the AMD Radeon 6950 XT (146 fps) and up to 5% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti (134 fps). At 4K resolution (Very High Quality) the RTX 4070 Ti trails the AMD Radeon 7900 XT by an 11% margin, averaging 85 fps against 96 fps. Still, that’s an impressive performance, but it’s slower than the RTX 4080 (101 fps) thanks to its RTX 3090 Ti-like performance.

On Shadow of the Tomb Raider (highest preset), the CyberpowerPC Gamer achieves 167 fps at 1440p and 90 fps at 4K. That’s less than the RTX 4090-toting Alienware Aurora R15 and MSI Infinite RS 13NUI-421US. Still, the Gamer Xtreme shows off strong generational improvements over the iBuypower Revolt which we’ve reviewed with an RTX 3080.

Cyberpunk 2077

Overall, the Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti card used here is one designed to make Nvidia a lot of money and give enthusiasts gamers a punch without spending too much. For one thing, it’s a GPU that manages to deliver gaming level either level with or ahead of the RTX 3090, and regularly beyond the more expensive new AMD RDNA 3 graphics cards, too. And when you factor in the twin benefits of DLS 3 and its impressive Frame Generation tech, you also get the ability to throw hyperbolic performance numbers that can be backed with actual benchmark data.

Anyone looking to dive into the PC gaming world or simply need a pre-build rig to play the more popular esports titles and run productivity tasks without breaking the bank should give the Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8680A some attention. Beyond the solid gaming performance, the Intel i7-13700KF processors, 32GB DDR5 RAM, and 2TB NVMe SSD storage should be more than sufficient for all your productivity and creative needs.

Most importantly, the 1440p and 4K performance is respectable on mid-to-high level settings on most games and those wanting to eventually upgrade can do so without much problem.

Bottom Line

The CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8680A is a capable gaming machine with plenty of power out-of-the-box and upgrade possibilities down the line. The RTX 4070 Ti is capable of playing games at 4k and the motherboard’s swatch of m.2 slots means there’s a ton of room to add storage.

A few weeks ago, I reviewed the CyberpowerPC GXiVR8080A34 and loved it for the HYTE Y60 case design and the amount of power it packs, thanks to the Intel Core i9-13900KF (24-Cores) processor, Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti GPU, 1TB SSD storage and 16GB DDR5 RAM. Now with the CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8680A, you’re getting double the memory and storage, for around the same price.

And for the price, you’re getting an incredible bang for the buck, especially with the Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti GPU and Intel Core i7-13700KF chip that offers strong performance than most expensive gaming laptops around. If you need an affordable gaming PC with solid 1440p performance and enough room for future upgrades, the CyberpowerPC GXiVR8680A is an excellent choice.
