Peloton Bike Review

The Peloton Bike might come at a premium price, but its performance and feature set justify the money you invest here. Apart from a beautiful aesthetic, this bike boasts a sturdy construction and a solid build that will withstand even the most vigorous spin-style workout regimen. With all these features, it’s easily one of the best exercise bikes available in the market right now.

However, one of the remarkable features of the Peloton Bike happens to be the most contentious as well. The Peloton App is simply amazing, its instructors are enthusiastic and motivational and they also curate robust spin-style workouts that are effective for calorie-burners and full of fun.

Elsewhere, it’s the All Access Membership that’s needed to use the Peloton App on the Peloton that will give most people a pause. It’s the price of gym membership in itself ($39 / £39 / AU$59 monthly). In addition, users who don’t have a Peloton product can access the Digital App for a fraction of the price ($12.99 / £12.99 / AU$16.99).

To the subscription, factor in the hefty price you’re already paying for the bike itself, and most users will need to revise their decision – especially considering that you can’t unlock the bike’s full features without the app. Also, you’ll need to buy Delta-compatible cleats to clip to the pedals, which is another cost.

That said, if the monthly cost of the Peloton App and the premium price you’re paying for the Peloton Bike don’t scare you, then they’re worth investing in. Not only are you investing in a high-quality bike capable of fun, calorie-burning workouts, but the sturdy build and extended warranty mean you can ride with peace of mind.

Peloton Bike Review: Setup and Use

Setting up the Peloton Bike is pretty simple, as the bike comes fully assembled – like the outdoors Ancheer Electric Bike; you only have to attach the screen. Next, you just link your All-Access Membership by dialing in a six-letter code that’s sent over with your original order confirmation. After this, the Peloton Bike will perhaps advise of an available update to the latest operating system, which doesn’t take long.

This bike weighs 179 pounds / 81.65kg, that’s on the heavier side of exercise bikes, and that will need some muscle to move it around your home. Luckily, Peloton gives a solution to that challenge by incorporating two wheels at the front of the bike that is designed to make it easier to move. We just wish you luck getting it up or downstairs, though.

Peloton Bike Review : Design and Display

On looks, there’s very little to criticize on the Peloton Bike. The frame looks sleek and sturdy, while the tablet screen offers enough real estate for an immersive workout without overwhelming the size of the bike itself. The frame has a matte black finish that feels luxurious and stylish, no matter where you place it inside the home.

It measures 47.5 x 37.6 x 17.5 inches and fits nicely into its designated area without taking up too much extra space. Just keep in mind that unless you don’t mind having cables running across your floor, you’ll be limited as to where to place the bike, because the tablet needs to be connected to a power source to work. This isn’t necessarily an issue, just something to remember.

The Peloton Bike also features a water bottle holder below the screen and a place to stow away small weights behind the seat. While both sets of holders are well placed and feel strong enough, we can’t really call either of them universally sized. You might have to a bottle slim enough to fit into the water bottle holder. Should you need to ensure that your water bottle and weights fit perfectly, Peloton offers a range of accessories to complement your bike.

Peloton Bike Review : Features

The main feature of the Peloton Bike is the All-Access Membership. As mentioned above, it will set you back $39 per month – but we are convinced it’s worth the cost.

Members in your household can set up different individual accounts (the All-Access Membership supports unlimited users), which I essential should you decide to track your progress. Each user is taken through a short set of videos that detail how to set up the bike for maximum comfort and efficiency.

It comes with a variety of workouts on the Peloton App, from classic spin-style workouts to boxing classes to relaxing yoga sessions. However, unlike the Peloton Bike Plus, you can’t spin the screen around to view it during workouts that aren’t available on the bike. However, you can download the app on your phone, laptop, or smart TV to stream non-bike workouts there instead.

Choosing individual classes is a fun-filled process, as there are a range of pre-recorded options as well as live classes where you can compete with fellow Peloton users in real time. To choose a pre-recorded workout, you can use a range of filters to narrow down your search. These include the instructor, the genre of music, the type of workout, how long the workout is, and more. Also, each class features a warm-up and a cool-down.

Overall, the classes are truly intuitive and that might as well be the main reason why we rate the Peloton Bike as one of the best weight loss exercise machines. It makes your spin-style workouts fun-filled and engaging.

Peloton Bike Review: Performance

Throughout each workout, the Peloton Bike remains firm and secure underneath. However, once you begin to hit vigorous parts of the workout when you’re out of the saddle the bike begins to wobble slightly. Also, the saddle feels slightly uncomfortable at first, but everything eases out over time.

Once again, you’ll need to have an All-Access Membership to the Peloton App to unlock Peloton’s full capabilities and experience the infamous Peloton workouts. This is perhaps the most contentious aspect of the Peloton Bike experience – this app requires a $39 monthly subscription; this is essentially the cost of a gym membership.

What makes this even more controversial is that non-Peloton product users can access the Peloton app for just $21. Yes, the All-Access Membership features more tracking capabilities, but it’s disputable whether it’s enough to justify a monthly cost of over twice as much.

Beyond the high price, the app is really good. It has a variety of workouts available, from spin-style classes to boxing HIIT. As mentioned earlier, the main difference between the Peloton Bike and the Peloton Bike+ is that the latter has a screen that can rotate. This means you can position the screen for floor-based workouts such as boxing and yoga.

However, the rotatable screen comes at a premium, but you can work around this by downloading the Peloton app on your phone, laptop, or smart TV to stream the non-bike workouts there instead.

Overall, the Peloton Bike offers decent performance. Not only does it come with fun and effective workout options via the Peloton App, but the bike’s solid build quality supports you effortlessly throughout even the toughest HIIT ride. And that experience easily justifies the premium price you’re paying.

Is it worth getting the Peloton Bike?

The Peloton Bike is a fantastic piece of equipment. It sports a sleek and robust design, a beautiful crisp display, and well-placed holders for water bottles and a set of weights, all of which make it a pleasure to use.

While you can use the app with a non-Peloton bike and end up paying much less subsequently, the experience is just not the same. You won’t have access to the on-screen performance metrics and won’t experience the motivational community aspects either.

If the cost of the bike and subscription gives you goosebumps, then you’re better off with a cheaper machine like the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B901 Pro.  But if money is a non-issue and you need the absolute best from an exercise bike, the Peloton Bike is a brilliant at-home workout option.

OUR VERDICT

The Peloton Bike is an excellent at-home workout equipment that, in addition to a splendid design supports various energetic spin classes and the Peloton App is a true game-changer for those struggling with workout motivation.
